Is it ok to use cortisone all the time?

The answer is no, if “all the time” means every day for prolonged periods. The continuous use of cortisone (or topical corticosteroids) can lead to side effects such as skin thinning, more visible blood vessels, easy bruising and stretch marks. Overuse of super high potency topical cortisones can possibly lead to systemic absorption resulting in suppression of adrenal gland function.

But chronic conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis, sometimes require long term treatment.  By pulsing or alternating topical cortisone use with other nonsteroid topical therapies you can effectively avoid potential side effects. Your provider can help you come up with a treatment plan that is safe and effective for you.
